Matt: Mom, what's the friendliest fish in the ocean?
Me: A dolphin?
Matt: No. Dolphins aren't fish. The friendliest fish is a whale shark. They pose no danger to humans.
Matt: What's the largest animal in the ocean?
Me: A whale?
Matt: What kind of whale?
Me: I don't know, just tell me.
(This goes on for a long time)
This week the parents were invited to the classroom for an ocean presentation to see what the kids had learned--lots of songs, poems, readers' theatres, artwork and snacks! It was so fun to see Matt with his friends and (sort of) singing. The singing isn't his thing!
(This is a shark song, so he has a shark puppet on his hand)
Matthew is in a multi-age program so his class has 1st and 2nd graders. Part of the presentation involved the 2nd graders passing the "torch of leadership" to the first graders who will be leaders next year to the incoming 1st graders. Matthew was also chosen by his class to read his "paper" explaining what it meant to be a "new friend." (Old friends=2nd graders, New friends=1st graders) As an English/Literature major, it made my reading and writing-loving self proud!

Did Matt actually say, "They pose no danger to humans." ??? That is so funny...
Oh yes, he really did say "pose no danger to humans"--I assume he read a book and is repeating it, but I get so little out of him about where he picks things up, that I don't know for sure!
Well, it so happens that Kailey's class also was studying the ocean, so, I would have passed Matt's quiz! (Blue Whale I believe...did you know the Blue Whale is even LARGER than the dinosaurs?)
