Pulaski Day

So the kids are off school today (again) for Pulaski Day. If you live outside of the Chicagoland area, you probably have never heard of Pulaski Day. I'm going to let you take a guess (without googling it) what Pulaski Day is and why Chicago kids get a day off from school. Comment by the end of the day and I'll let you know tomorrow. There may even be a couple of prizes--one for the correct guess and another for the most creative!

It seems only fair that if Mothers
in Chicago get a time out over the weekend, then the kids should get a
day off school to reconnect. I'm
guessing it happens alot in the old
Poland.............

I'm guessing it's got to be due to some sports player/athlete that made Chicago famous. Either that or he invented a hot dog or something.

When I read Pulaski I thought it sounded familiar but then I realized I was thinking of Pelosi, as in Nancy Pelosi. So maybe Pulaski is the Slavic cousin to Pelosi who is honored for his political contributions? or just an advocate for Obama?
